Hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, Ed embarked on his tech odyssey with a strong foundation in Information Services, shaped by his education at Xavier University and further honed through strategic insights gained from the Harvard Negotiations Project. His early professional years were characterized by a hands-on approach to technology, working on compilers for robotics and early physiological monitoring systems, akin to today’s Fitbit.
Ed’s venture into leadership roles began at NYNEX (now Verizon), where he rapidly ascended from a programmer to Vice President. This role marked the start of a series of high-profile leadership positions, each underscoring his ability to navigate and shape the ever-evolving technology landscape. As a Senior Vice President at Claremont Technology Group, Ed was instrumental in the company’s exponential growth, significantly increasing its revenue and workforce, leading to a successful IPO.
At Alltel Wireless (now part of Verizon), Ed spearheaded a transformation in the information services unit, achieving a notable cost reduction. His tenure at Eclipse Networks was marked by strategic venture funding initiatives and executing acquisitions, highlighting his prowess in corporate strategy and finance optimization.
Ed’s role as a Partner and Managing Director at Accenture stands out as a period where he led some of the company’s most significant projects, including a $1.5 billion BPO for a global Telecom. His strategic acumen was further demonstrated in his involvement with the $35 billion Sprint/Nextel merger, managing the merger clean room for the business side. He also ran important internal projects replacing Accenture’s telecom and networking solutions for offices and call centers.
At the summit of his consulting career, Ed turned his back and started over as an engineer. The entrepreneurial chapter of Ed’s career saw him co-founding and leading two startups: Foxtrot Code and Reunify. At Foxtrot Code, he developed a low-code, IDE platform for Splunk, making wrangling of big data accessible to a broader range of users for business intelligence and machine learning. With Reunify, Ed ventured into machine learning and predictive modeling, blending qualitative market research with quantitative data to optimize marketing strategies, leading to a successful exit.
Currently, as the Chief Product Officer at Veritas Automata and previously at Apex Supply Chain Technologies, Ed’s focus has been on developing Web 3.0 products and services, particularly in the Food, Retail, and Manufacturing sectors. His work in these roles is characterized by his leadership in conceptualizing and launching products that leverage Blockchain, ML/AI, Big Data, IoT, and Robotics. Under his guidance, the time to market for new products was significantly reduced, and he played a pivotal role in developing global product and engineering organizations.
Ed’s technical acumen is further exemplified in his patents, including methods and systems for autonomous dispensing of products and transforming data streams into social scoring and intelligence. His ability to envision and execute complex technological solutions and lead teams across continents is a testament to his comprehensive understanding of the global tech landscape.
